Credit card companies keep a close eye on consumer habits. They know which rewards programs are better suited to a certain demographic and they’re also making decisions based on any number of economic factors, changes in buying habits and even the seasons of the year. These days, with more of us flying, many credit card offers are meeting these new dynamics with competitive airline rewards. This week, we take a look at a few of those credit cards that are offering airline rewards.
Chase Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards Premier
If there’s any one credit card offer that’s upping the ante, so to speak, it’s the co-branded Chase and Southwest Airlines card. For a limited time, when you apply for and are approved for this credit card, you’ll earn two free flights after your first purchase. Southwest is already a dominating force in the airline industry and of course, Chase is a formidable opponent in the credit card sector. Now that the two have joined forces, it’s definitely a strong consideration for those who travel a lot.
As a cardholder, you’ll also receive 6,000 points each year as your membership anniversary approaches. Further adding to its attraction is the expanded international redemption options, such as international air fare and hotels. The are no limitations on how many flights you can earn and every Southwest Airlines purchase made with the card earns two points per dollar. All the angles are covered, to be sure.
While you must be a member of the Pentagon Federal Credit Union, it’s quick and easy to join and once you do, you’ll enjoy no annual fee on this credit card offer along with five times the points on airline purchases, three times the points in dining and hotels plus you’ll earn on your everyday purchases, too. Card members are provided complimentary concierge service, VIP airline lounge access and a really good interest rate (variable, of course and your credit history determines it).
Your first $650 in the first ninety days of becoming a card holder entitles you to 20,000 bonus points, which could easily equate to a free airline ticket. There are no expiration dates, either. Other benefits you’d expect to see with such a prestigious credit card are included, too, such as roadside assistance, car rental insurance coverage and the American Express world class travel insurance coverage.
Onyx World MasterCard Free Spirit
The Free Spirit MasterCard by Onyx World offers something many others don’t: 10,000 additional miles when you transfer your balance (provided it’s done in the first 60 days of opening the account). You’ll also receive 15,000 bonus miles with your first purchase, priority boarding, 3 miles for every dollar spent on Spirit and a point for every dollar spent everywhere else. You’ll also enjoy a 0% APR for the first six months, making the balance transfer option even more attractive. This MasterCard also has points that never expire, allowing you plenty of time to plan those holiday getaways.
Ink Bold with Ultimate Rewards
Finally, we take a look at the Chase Ink Bold with Ultimate Rewards. This credit card offer has consistently received a 5 star rating, and for good reason. Your first purchase earns you 25,000 bonus points with no limits on how many points you can earn. And if you’re wondering if the points ever expire, no worries because they don’t. Your first year’s annual fee is waived, saving you $95. Keep I mind, this is a traditional charge card, so your balance must be paid in full in the thirty day cycle.
As you can see, the airline rewards points credit cards continue to grow in popularity and they’re growing more competitive, too. If you’ve considered applying for one of these specialty offers, now’s a great time to do so. As always, be sure to carefully review the terms and conditions to ensure it’s the right choice for your needs.
