Throw the words black, blue, platinum or gold in front of a credit card, and suddenly, there’s a certain prestige that goes with owning one of these color coordinated credit cards. Ah – but they’re not created equal. One card might have an impressive APR promo while another waives the annual fee.
This week, we take a look at a few credit card offers that require excellent credit scores, but whose owners are rewarded for their sterling credit histories. Take a look and see if any are right for your needs.
AMEX Platinum Card
The American Express Platinum card is all about earning membership rewards points, global travel and complimentary perks that make the world traveler’s life just a bit easier. Spend one thousand dollars during the first three months of your membership and you’ll see 25,000 Membership Rewards points added to your account.
If you’re not sure what that equates to, you will be able to redeem them for a round trip domestic airline ticket coach-class. The new features of the AMEX Platinum include global benefits, such as expedited American immigration pass and Priority Pass airport club access. Also, the hotels and resorts program allows for upgrades at no additional cost in some of the most prestigious resorts and hotel chains in the world.
AMEX Premier Rewards Gold Card
Another impressive American Express offer, the Premier Rewards Gold Card, like its platinum counterpart, allows for 15,000 additional bonus points when you spend $1,000 during your first three months of membership. Plus, you earn double and triple points on those items you buy most often, such as groceries and gas.
There is a $175 annual fee for owning this gold card, but your first year is waived. For those who like to make their weekends (or weekdays) count, you’ll enjoy the exclusive access to hotels, ball games and many other favorite events throughout the year.
Visa Black Card
The Visa Black card is one of this company’s newest credit card offers. Membership is limited, which allows the company to really hone in on what its customers are drawn to in terms of perks and benefits. You can travel with no worries about blackouts or any kind of restrictions, you’ll be privy to luxury gifts throughout the year, 24 hour concierge service and other exclusive rewards just for the Visa Black members.
There is a $495 annual fee for this card, but you’ll enjoy 0% APR the first 15 months and then a low 14.99% after that. This credit card requires excellent credit due to its limited membership dynamic. While many say the annual fee is a turn-off, there’s no denying the many benefits this Visa offers.
Blue Sky Preferred American Express
The Blue Sky Preferred products have garnered a lot of attention in recent years due to the many perks customers enjoy. It was one of the first credit cards that really reshaped customer expectations in terms of how they want to be treated. You’ll see a $100 annual credit in the form of an airline allowance that can be used to offset baggage fees and those other frustrating fees you encounter when your travel. Also, earn double points when you dine out and rent hotels or cars.
All other purchases earn you one point per dollar spent – and you never have to worry about expirations, restrictions or blackout dates. Also, you’ll note 7,500 bonus points as soon as you become a member, which can be used for a statement credit of $100 if you choose. The annual fee with this AMEX is $75 and for a limited time, you’ll enjoy a 0% APR for twelve months. Finally, this American Express allows you to pay over time if you wish.
As you can see, there’s something to be said for exclusivity – especially when it comes to credit cards. Each card company has its own premier card offers, so be sure to explore what MasterCard and Discover offer, too. These perks and benefits mean little if you don’t use them, so be sure to find the right offer for your lifestyle. Double check the rates and fees, too; once you’ve decided the best offer, you can apply online for these and other credit cards for an instant approval.
